The Project | Sharks is an immersive touring exhibition designed to deepen understanding of one of the ocean’s most misunderstood species. Through interactive exhibits, cultural storytelling and a large-scale projection animating over 180 shark species, the exhibition invites visitors to know, care, and ultimately act to protect sharks worldwide.

Our Role | Studio Cassells and Story Inc carried out Masterplanning, Concept and Development (Environment, exhibit, graphics and multimedia), Detailed Design and Design input throughout fabrication, overseeing multimedia production and installation.

A global touring exhibition

Commissioned by the Australian Museum, Sharks was designed as a flexible touring exhibition, capable of adapting to multiple venues worldwide. First presented in Sydney, the exhibition is set to reach audiences across Australia, the Americas, New Zealand and Asia.

Immersive storytelling at scale

At the heart of the exhibition is a large-scale projection experience animating over 180 shark species. Combined with an original soundscape and interactive media, the installation creates a visceral encounter with sharks in their ocean environments.

Interactive learning for all ages

Hands-on mechanical interactives, digital experiences and tactile displays invite visitors of all ages to explore shark anatomy, sensory perception and movement—transforming complex science into engaging, accessible learning moments.

Know, Care, Act

The exhibition is structured around the guiding principle Know, Care, Act—building understanding of shark biology and behaviour, fostering emotional connection, and empowering visitors with actions to support shark conservation.

Cultural perspectives and conservation

Sharks weaves scientific research with First Nations perspectives from across the Pacific, highlighting sharks’ cultural significance and the long-standing relationships between coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

Designed through collaboration

Developed by Studio Cassells in partnership with Story Inc, the exhibition was created in close collaboration with the Australian Museum’s curatorial, scientific, exhibition and accessibility teams, ensuring accuracy, impact, longevity and inclusivity across its touring life.
